Dan: Yes, we had caught that error (a) as well and revised that section entirely. It just took a little while.

Trying to discuss price is always tough because it changes so quickly. But if people click on the links -- which Staff has added for all of the cameras mentioned -- they should know the correct price at any moment, at least via Amazon.com and their affiliated dealers.

Availability of the 5D II is still very tight now, so prices tend to be high. Some dealers have a long backorder list. Hence, the few cameras that are available, are selling for the full List price.

...but when it is available from “normal” suppliers... Yes, and that is the problem. Canon cannot make the 5D II in adequate quantities. In fact, yesterday, they announced the re-opening of a plant that had been closed (to try to manufacture an adequate number of DSLR cameras.)

Even with the slow economony, some products are selling extremely well.

Cheers! Peter

1. Great article and insight.
2. Two minor mistakes ...
a) the caption under the last image says D700, but I assume you mean the 5D2, since the D700 doesn't have video.
b) pricing on the 5D2 (2nd last paragraph) is indicated as $3,500 which it might be from some sellers, but when it is available from "normal" suppliers, B&H or Amazon, it is sold at the list price of $2,700.

What a great article, Peter. Thank you for explaining these concepts in a way that is actually understandable and outlines the implications in a real and demonstrable way.

Thanks.
