17 Jul 2009The 28-50 F3.5 is really a great little lens and covers a useful range with a constant aperture throughout. It’s very sharp, good contrast and the colors is records are to be commended. I use this lens with a 20MM or 24MM added to the bag and cover a good range. With the 85 F1.8 thrown in, it’s a perfect trio. I found mine in mint+ condition for $150. Best $150 I ever spent.

23 Feb 2022I have found the 28-50 3.5ais to be very sharp from f/4. Very useful little lens with a pretty decent close focus available at 50mm. I see no axial CA nor lateral and fairly neutral OOF, without ugly doubling. I’ve used it on 6-24 mp cameras and I’m always very satisfied. At f/4 it looks like my 50 1.4D at f/2. At f/5.6 it’s as sharp as my 1.4D at 2.8, which is sharp.
There’s not much online about this lens, but I have seen some love it and some are lukewarm on it. If you include the sun in your pictures, you probably could do better than this lens, but I have no problems with backlit subjects.
