The Nikkor AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED delivered a very impressive performance in the lab. The resolution figures are very good to excellent with a highly impressive peak performance around f/5.6. The level of distortions is exceptionally low for a zoom lens. CAs are moderate except at 40mm @ f/2.8. Vignetting is very well controlled. The build quality of the lens is superb and it ´s a joy to handle it despite its comparatively hefty size and weight. Full compatibility with the AF-I tele-converters–a first for an AF Nikkor zoom–will offer a significant advantage. … In terms of sharpness, resolution of intricate detail, snappy contrast, freedom from flare and aberrations, both are outstanding performers. Although the Silent Wave motor adds to the cost, it makes the lenses even more desirable. This technology will surely help photographers to increase their success ratio of sharply focused images, paying dividends that will justify the higher price. READ FULL REVIEW

I’d never want to walk around with this thing hanging off the front of my camera. If you spend more time shooting than carrying it, it’s a great lens. READ FULL REVIEW
