Thanks for the excellent report, Peter. I think the biggest unanswered question with the Micro Four Thirds cameras is whether the smaller, more elegant form factor justifies the price, particularly of the lenses. As nice as the results may be, the price on the Lumix GH1 still solidly over $1000:

Ha ha...the video output from a Canon 7D is hopeless. It has the record for the camera I owned for the shortest time (3 weeks) in over 35 years.

The Canon 5d2 is better, but resolution is still low (about 600-700 lines) because of the line-skipping approach to reading a 21 MP sensor...and discarding most of the information (HD video requires less than a 2 MP sensor).

Crappy artefacts such as moire and aliasing don't help either.

It wouldn't take much to beat the Canons on video IQ.

This is interesting. http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1264635448.html

Millimeter-for-millimeter, is DMC-GH1's sensor better than EOS 7D's?

In what's sure to be a controversial result, DxO has published test results for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1's sensor that show it outperforming that of the Canon EOS 7D in many areas, and standing head and shoulders above other Four Thirds-format sensors.

DxO's "DxO Mark" methodology and eponymous website are together an attempt to compare digital camera sensors at the chip level, based on true apples-to-apples measurements from RAW files... (Continues) http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1264635448.html
