Photocrati Pro Available

photocrati-theme-releaseNot long ago I published an article about what’s in the works here at team Photocrati. I am happy to share that Photocrati Pro is now available.

This is a brand new theme, so if your license of Photocrati has expired you will need to re-purchase in order to get the new theme. Please see the original announcement post for more information.

Before Installing or Updating

Before installing or updating, we recommend backing up your existing files and database.  We also recommend saving your current customization features as a preset.

*Please note that even after updating, you may still see additional updates available. This is due to caching and will go away within a few hours. To verify that you are running version the latest version, visit the Appearance tab of your WordPress admin and the Photocrati Pro theme should display the version number, 5.0.

As always, you can also download the newest version of the theme from the Photocrati members area and update your theme manually.

What’s New With Photocrati:

  • Replaced Photocrati gallery and ecommerce system with NextGEN Pro
  • Misc adjustments
  • New: Importer from Photocrati to NextGEN Gallery

Some users have been concerned about converting from the Photocrati gallery system to NextGEN Gallery and NextGEN Pro. To help with the process we’ve built a Photocrati gallery importer into Photocrati Pro.  Once NextGEN Gallery is active along side Photocrati Pro, users have the ability to import their Photocrati galleries in bulk.

When done users can then convert their displayed galleries from Photocrati to NextGEN Pro using whichever display type they choose.  Here is a tutorial on how to get started.

Please refer to NextGEN Help Documentation for help with your galleries.

  1. Hi Scott, do the old photocrati galleries have to be imported and recreated as NextGen, or can they be left “as is”?

    1. Hi Rick, great question. No – we did not remove the gallery system completely. We only removed the ability to create new galleries within the Photocrati Gallery System. So your galleries will remain in place until you manually delete them and convert to a NextGEN Gallery.

  2. Is the new Photocrati Pro built on Genesis or is there another theme in the works? I am a big fan of Genesis and have used many of its child themes with great satisfaction on a variety of sites and will me curious to see what Photocrati child theme will do under a parent like Genesis.

    1. Photocrati Pro is still built on the Photocrati Theme framework, but with some enhancements and changes and improvements. The future Imagely themes will be 100% Genesis based. Our first batch of Imagely themes will be designed after our most popular Photocrati design presets.

  3. So, Photocrati Pro 5.0 is not based on Genesis, and yet we’ve waited for nearly 4 years for the “new and improved” version 5. When will the NEW version of Photocrati / Imagely based on the Genesis framework be available? I would prefer to wait until the theme is based on the Genesis framework, and I like some sort of timeline so I can plan accordingly.

    1. The Photocrati Pro theme is based on the Photocrati Theme framework. All future themes, at Imagely, will be Genesis child themes. We hope to soft launch in beta mode after the New Year. Fingers crossed 🙂

  4. Is there a point in buying NextGen Pro if I buy Photocrati?

    1. If you own Photocrati Pro then you do not need to purchase NextGEN Pro seperately.

      1. How about the opposite? I have an older Photocrati theme (4.9.3), but have NextGen Pro. Should I upgrade to Photocrati Pro? Or, wait to upgrade with your new Imagery/ Genesis rollout? I’m honestly not sure what that does for me as I’m more of a photographer and less of a computer software website guy. Any advise would sure be appreciated greatly!

        1. It’s really up to you if you want the Photocrati Pro theme or a new Genesis based child theme.

  5. Hey Scott I’m a bit confused by all of this. I love Photocrati for the most part, but have been waiting for better gallery display options. Sounds like the Photocrati Pro with Next Gen might be a solution, however, I would like to see some demo’s, are there any? Also, I can’t tell how to buy this, going to the main “buy” link looks like I’m just buying the old Photocrati. And finally, I don’t want to have recurring payments if I buy Pro, I understand I won’t get updates, but I can make a determination at a future date if I updates have made it worthwhile to buy again, is there a way I can buy one year at a time?

    Thanks

    Mike

  6. Hi,

In November I bought Photocrati, running version 4.9.3. Is there a cost updating to the new Pro version?

    Thanks,
    Tim

    1. If you don’t have an active subscription then you’d need to buy a new subscription to access Photocrati Pro. Please check with support if you’re unsure.

  7. I recently bought Photocrati Pro (after using the original Photcrati for a few years) and while I like it as a whole, there is one, really important thing that is really bothering me and that is the lightbox options. There are only a few basic ones and there is now way to customize the look of them. I don’t want to do any crazy customizations, maybe just change the colors… It’s sad that I can customize almost everything else I want in the theme except for the part that should be most important, and that is how visitors actually view my (large) images. As a photographer, this is very disappointing.
I contacted support but unfortunately they weren’t able to help me. The best I’ve come up with so far is that I found a third party plugin that should allow me to customize the look of Fancybox but it would cost me another $30 that I don’t want to spend after I just bought the Photocrati Pro.

    1. If you turn on NextGEN Pro’s Pro Lightbox you have complete customization control, including colors. Please check that out as it’s included with Photocrati Pro.

  8. Hi Guys,
    What’s Genesis?

Should l wait a bit to allow Photocrati’s migration over to NextGEN or what’s on?
    Any help would be appreciated.
l’m just starting an Online Portfolio/Site & hoping to sell some of my photos & a few pointers would go a long way for me.
    Regards & Thanks, Con

    1. Photocrati Pro is now available with NextGEN Pro. We decided to move towards the Genesis framework for the future as its one of the best frameworks out there and has a huge community around it already. That is a bonus for us, as developers, and you as a customer. It means you can get support from us, and/or get assistance and advice from the huge community of Genesis users. Because a theme based on Genesis will have similar code and structure to other Genesis themes.

  9. Hi,
I currently have the ‘old’ photocrati. is there a feature list as to what I will gain, eg can I now do digital downloads. I’m not too sure and can’t find exactly the differences NextGen Pro provide. The Photocrati website seems almost the same as it was before eg Theme Features??

    1. Hi Kenny,

For a full list of what’s inside of NextGEN Gallery and NextGEN Pro check out the NextGEN Gallery website. Scroll down on the homepage to the pricing chart and you’ll see the list.

  10. I love the Photocrati theme! I am still on the older version, Photocrati 4.9.3. I am creating a new website which is image based (a portfolio site). And I just installed Photocrati NextGEN version 2.1.23. I am now wondering if the NextGen galleries are any different than the galleries in the Photocrati theme that I am already using, and using both of them are redundant. Also, I am wondering about using the NextGen Galleries. I see in the area where I edit the page, there is a link that says New Photocrati Gallery / Album. When I click that, there is a popup and at the bottom it says Import NextGen. Is that how I would add a NextGen Gallery which I would have created previously in the NextGen area? Sorry if this is a confusing question, but I am confused, thinking this is a redundant situation I set up!

    1. Some of the NextGEN Pro galleries were designed after the Photocrati galleries. However, NextGEN Pro offers more styles than what’s available in the Photocrati system. In addition, NextGEN Pro’s ecommerce is greater than Photocrati’s. Lastly, Photocrati galleries will no longer be supported for future updates, so you’ll have no choice but to switch to NextGEN. With that all said, if you need help with NextGEN please contact support and you can also check out documentation here.

  11. I have NextGen Pro and Photocrati. 4.9.3 What are the pros and cons of upgrading to Photocrati Pro?

  12. Is there a reason to go for Imagely over Photocrati? I looked, but I can’t seem to find a reason to make the switch.
