Photocrati Featured Content Widget

Photocrati Featured Content WidgetIn Photocrati 4.9 we added a variety of new widget areas, including one called Homepage Widgets Featured, which we matched perfectly with our new Featured Content Widget.

The widget allows you to pick from specific blog post categories, or all categories to feature. You can also feature based on tags and choose how many you want to be displayed as well as the sort order.

The coolest part about the Featured Content Widget is the ability to choose which content layout you want used.

The options include each of the new blog template styles, which really opens up the doors to what you can do with the widget.

Here is what the new widget looks like:

You can see the new widget in use on my site, which Grid as the template in use.

From there you will have the ability to utilize all the new homepage widget areas, and the new Featured Content Widget.

We hope you love the new widget as much as we do!

Photocrati Theme Widget Areas

Photocrati Theme Widget AreasYour photography website is extremely personal, so you need the ability to customize settings easily and place content in many locations.

So we decided to add a variety of new and very useful widget areas into the theme.

Many of these new widgets are included in the new homepage template. However, many are also for posts, pages and globally.

Lets start with what’s available for the homepage first, and then posts and pages and we will finish with the global widget areas.

Photocrati Widget Areas

Homepage Widgets

As you can see from the screenshot above, there are 4 new homepage widgets, for use with the new homepage page template.

Each of these is its own level from top to bottom. Meaning homepage widgets 1 will be on top of homepage widgets 2, which is on top of homepage widgets 3.

Within each widget area you can place multiple widgets. Those widgets will be divided to multiple columns across the screen, and will adjust to single columns on mobile devices.

This works similar to how our footer widgets have always worked.

Post Widgets

Next up are posts. There is the ability to add content above and below every blog post you publish. You can add optins or other calls to action. Or company news, or really anything you want seen by your blog readers.

Page Widgets

Similar to the post widgets, we added the ability to add widgets above and below page content.

Global Widgets

The global widgets are a mix of multiple locations. First is a widget area directly above the Footer Widgets, so if you wanted multiple rows of footer widgets this is how you could make that happen.

Then there are the header widgets, both above and below. These are great places to put content like social follow buttons, or news you want visible to everyone who visits your site.

Last is a menu widget area for when you utilize the theme’s left sided header option.

Widget Maps

We created a series of basic widget maps so you can get a better idea for where each one is located.

Photocrati Theme Blog Templates

New Photocrati Theme Blog TemplatesOne thing that we have learned over the years is just how personal each individual website is to each individual photographer.

Up until now the Photocrati Theme had one blog layout.  We will call that Legacy, since that is what we are now calling it in the theme.

After a lot of research into what layouts photographers love the most, we decided to change and improve what our theme offers. So As of Photocrati Theme version 4.9, there are 7 blog templates, including Legacy.

Yes, you can now choose from the multiple blog template styles available within the theme. These include Masonry which automatically adjusts the background color based on your theme’s page color settings, Masonry Minimal, Image Wall which is great for when the Featured Images have no text , Grid, Featured Image Left, Featured Image Right and the standard Legacy blog template.

You also have the ability to choose what you want to happen if and when a Featured Image is not set for a blog post. The theme can either use a default image which you specify, or a gray gradient which is generic.

Depending on the template you pick, you can also choose to show the post excerpt or full content.

Like always in the Photocrati Theme, all blog template styles are full responsive for mobile devices.

We decided not to show the legacy template as Photocrati customers are already used to that by now, and it’s the general blog template that the majority of WordPress themes use, which are not very image centric.

Changing Blog Templates

Changing blog templates is as easy as any other setting changes in the Photocrati Theme.

Open the Customize Theme tab in your WordPress admin area.

From there, go to the Body tab and the first section you will see is the blog template options.

We recommend experimenting to see which you prefer the most and which settings for each template you like the most.

We hope you love the new blog templates as much as we do!
